Kelvingrove Bandstand
Radio Clyde launched the first official annual free Kelvingrove Music Festival in 1978 headed by Festival Director John MacCalman, the aim was to provide a platform for local bands and musicians to play original material to a large outdoor audience, these bands were carefully selected as a representative of some of the best bands from the west of Scotland. The concerts were free to the public and the public responded by turning up in their thousands every year, the events were also recorded to be broadcast on Radio Clyde at a later date. We have put together a selection of photos with a couple of videos and information on the festivals and concerts held in the bandstand over the years, This page not only celebrates the fantastic memories of Kelvingrove, it also documents a special period in the bandstand’s history, to let younger generations see what was achieved and enjoyed here long before it’s 2.1 million pound refurbishment in 2014. A special thanks from all of us to - Radio Clyde, Tom Russell, Jammy Music and of course Mr John MacCalman for all of the support you gave to the musicians, music fans and The Bandstand over the years.
