TRIDENT

Martin McGuire - vocals

Campbell Burns - guitar

Gordon Glen - bass

Graham Hendry - drums

Formed by school mates Graham Hendry and Campbell Burns back in 1983. Trident were joined by Martin McGuire and Tommy Wilson where they became one of the best live and hardest working bands in Scotland throughout a big chunk of the 80s.

At a time when the rock world had gone all ‘spandex and silk-scarf silly’ - Trident flew the flag for real - rock’n’roll music with a no nonsense approach to their music and live shows.

They regularly played in places such as The venue, The Doune and Shadows in Glasgow and in 1987 opened the Radio Clyde Kelvingrove Festival with such a bang they were invited back the following year to headline the festival, the band were on fire at this time, but as record company interest grew the band began to feel they were losing their edge after five years of rocking all over Scotland, they decided to disband at the end of the 80s.

But !  You can’t keep a good headbangin band down for long - Trident were soon back playing live on and off through the 90s, which saw a two year period where ex Centurion frontman Jim Jamieson took over on lead vocals for the recording of ‘The Answer’ album, which included some of the best solid rock songs the boys had ever recorded.

In the early part of 2000, the old band reformed for some gigs around Glasgow until 2006 when they decided to pull the curtain down on the classic line-up. A few years later Trident earned a mention in the book ‘Minstrels, Poets and Vagabonds’ a history of Scottish Rock music, published in 2009.

These days Trident are still going strong with almost all of the original members, Campbell, Martin and Graham are now joined by Gordon Glen on bass. In recent years the band have played The Highway To Hell Festival in Blackpool, The Thunder In The Glens in Aviemore and Bonfest at Kirriemuir they also regularly pack out The Clutha in Glasgow  going down a storm, proving they can still get a crowd going better than most.
